Reeder: A New Approach to Following Feeds - MacStories
this is a pretty solid overview of
reeder
in its latest form. it’s transformed from a best in class RSS reader to a universal reading inbox that syncs across all of your apple devices. i’ve been driving this since it hit the app store and it’s a breath of fresh air and a great consolidation of various input sources.i’ve managed to consolidate the following into this thing:
- mastododon home feed
- various RSS feeds from newsblur (anything that’s had traction over the past year or so)
- youtube channels i’m subscribed to
- (sub)reddits that are interesting to me to keep track of in a meaningful capacity. (neovim, etc.)
i haven’t tried any of the publication features outlined here, and the lack of keyboard shortcuts for ipad and mac os is a bit on the annoying side. but they’re on the roadmap and if the robust support for the keyboard in previous releases and in complementary apps is any indication, i think i’ll be happy on this front.
the timeline/feed sync across devices is unbelieveably fast/solid. i’m a little concerned that i might miss some of my favorite low frequency feeds here, but i can go back and troll through the detailed subscription profiles at my leisure and reeder isn’t going away. (but my newsblur subscription does seem to be)
reeder is now suscription-ware ($10/year), but i’m saving $25 a year relative to the newsblur subscription here so i’m money ahead. in either event, i figure i easily owe the developer at least a year’s worth of subscription for the utility i’ve had from reeder classic.
