• The Tech Baron Seeking to Purge San Francisco of “Blues”

this disgorged from my reading backlog while on a roadtrip. i honestly don’t know what to make of this. people have vastly overestimated the intelligence of tech entrepreneurs. if this dude didn’t have a grip of followers on social media we wouldn’t have to be subjected to this.

  • The Uncertainty

this is one of the best “things” i’ve read recently on science messaging, though it’s not necessarily about science messaging per se.

    • we’re not well wired for, nor does the media ingest and articulate the variability in science and the world at large.
    • speaking about things probabilistically is unintuititve and requires a baseline level of understanding. humans desire (demand?) certainty. (this is why messaging that is clearly wrong but delivered with certainty is so appealing to people.)
