The Tech Baron Seeking to Purge San Francisco of “Blues”
this disgorged from my reading backlog while on a roadtrip. i honestly don’t know what to make of this. people have vastly overestimated the intelligence of tech entrepreneurs. if this dude didn’t have a grip of followers on social media we wouldn’t have to be subjected to this.
this is one of the best “things” i’ve read recently on science messaging, though it’s not necessarily about science messaging per se.
- we’re not well wired for, nor does the media ingest and articulate the variability in science and the world at large.
- speaking about things probabilistically is unintuititve and requires a baseline level of understanding. humans desire (demand?) certainty. (this is why messaging that is clearly wrong but delivered with certainty is so appealing to people.)
