in short, if you’re using a url shortener, don’t use it for important, private stuff.

i ran across this post re: the use of URL shorteners. the sad/puzzling part of this is that the cloud providers left this open to scraping so readily. however, i have to wonder about the thought process of folks that are bright enough to use a URL shortner, but not think about the implications for the use more widely. this is primarily directed at folks that use bitly, ifttt, twittter, etc…

though to be fair, the use of a service co-resident URL shortener would seem to imply that there’s been some thought given to all of the elements that go into the assembly of the final URL. but clearly, folks shouldn’t assume that.
