master of the revels (nicole galland)

i’m glad i got this on kindle, because i slogged through this for far too long.

this is an amusing sequel to the rise and fall of D.O.D.O. which was done with neal stephenson as the co-author. this builds on the whole time travel via witchcraft thing which is an amusing trope that i had fun reading. superficially, the premise is kind of neat; a rogue witch who’s engaged in the government’s time travel project decides that she’s going to make witchcraft supreme and stunt the emergence of “technology”. antics, with some clever wordplay ensure.

unfortunately, this seemed to straddle that awkward place where it’s not compelling enough to pull me through as a keep at it non-stop read; finishing it quickly. but it’s good enough to make you feel like you need to keep at it.

it’s been in my kindle queue for an embarassingly long time. if i was lugging along the book i would likely have been forced to make a call on this much sooner, than later. because it was kindle, i could waffle. i finally reached the point where i just ground out the last couple hundred pages. it could have been 100-200 pages shorter.
