quite possibly the best sticker i’ve seen in quite some time. this was plastered outside of a pub in the temple bar district in dublin. kathy snapped a picture of it when we were wandering about for dinner a few weeks ago and dodging vomit.

bittorrent sync

given all of the recent activity around storing your stuff in the cloud and the love from the NSA, i was wondering when the torrent crowd would assemble something along the lines of a peer-to-peer dropbox option. turns out that they already have. there’s even an iphone app and something equivalent for android. sync takes place over your local network if you’re local and via torrent if you’re remote. there’s some interesting reflector/relay capabilities and the data looks to be encrypted from end to end....

interesting reads - april-2013

tech related theia - a visual tool for diagnosing hadoop issues a nice quick paper with a use of D3 for presentation. the tail at scale i’ve been recommending this to anyone who will sit still long enough to listen to me on this stuff. there’s some really interesting 2nd order networking effects from this paper. perhaps not of interest to the majority of enterprise folks, but if you’re a member of the “crap is better and moar iterations” school of thought … breathe deeply....

airbnb

we just got back from two weeks in italy where we stayed in apartments through airbnb as opposed to our usual hotel hopping. as someone who spends a ton of time in hotels for the man this was a notable departure from business usual and something that we enjoyed immensely. this definitely puts a different twist on the personal travel experience almost all of it for the better. ...
